Research Information
Data Access for Academic & Scientific Research
Trines.live is a global social experiment that collects anonymous data about intimate human behavior patterns. We welcome collaboration with academic researchers, data scientists, and institutions interested in studying human connection.
What Data We Collect
Our dataset is 100% anonymous and aggregated. We do NOT collect any personal information.
✅ Data We DO Collect:
- Timestamp - When the pulse was submitted (UTC)
- Country - Derived from IP address via geolocation
- City - Approximate city (derived from IP)
- Coordinates - Latitude/longitude (approximate, city-level only)
- Timezone - User's timezone
❌ Data We DO NOT Collect:
- Names, emails, phone numbers
- IP addresses (not stored in database)
- User accounts or authentication
- Tracking cookies
- Any personally identifiable information (PII)
⚠️ Important: The only additional data collected is via Google Analytics (standard web analytics: page views, session duration, device type). This data is separate from our pulse database and is used solely for improving the user experience.
Dataset Characteristics
- Geographic Coverage: Global (45+ countries)
- Temporal Resolution: Second-level precision
- Data Format: PostgreSQL database, exportable to CSV/JSON
- Current Size: Growing daily (check live dashboard for current stats)
- Accuracy: Geolocation is ~95% accurate at country level, ~70-80% at city level
Research Opportunities
This dataset enables research in multiple fields:
🧠 Psychology & Sociology
Study cultural differences in intimate behavior patterns across countries and time zones.
📊 Data Science
Develop predictive models, time-series analysis, and clustering algorithms.
🌍 Geography
Analyze spatial patterns and urban/rural differences in human behavior.
⏰ Chronobiology
Study circadian rhythms and temporal patterns across time zones.

Published Research
We maintain a list of all academic publications using our data. If you publish research using Trines.live data, please let us know so we can add it to our repository.
Privacy & Ethics
Our commitment to privacy is absolute:
- ✅ All data is collected with user consent (implicit via interaction)
- ✅ Zero personal information stored
- ✅ GDPR & CCPA compliant
- ✅ Transparent about data collection (see Privacy Policy)
- ✅ Age gate (18+) to protect minors
Limitations & Disclaimers
Researchers should be aware of the following limitations:
- Self-Selection Bias: Users who submit pulses may not represent the general population
- Geolocation Accuracy: IP-based geolocation has ~20-30% error rate at city level
- VPN Users: Some data points may reflect VPN server locations, not actual user locations
- Self-Reporting: Data is self-reported and unverified
- Sample Size: May vary significantly by country/region
